Takashima Nojuro (1890–1975) was a Western-style painter from Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, known for his distinctive realist depictions of candles and the moon. Marking the 50th anniversary of his death, this exhibition is the largest retrospective ever held of his work—featuring over 160 pieces, including previously unseen works—and the first to be staged in Osaka. Long called a "solitary painter," Nojuro's artistic roots are traced back through works from his youth and his years in Europe, shedding light on aspects rarely explored in past exhibitions and offering a deeper look into the essence of his art.
